Community roundup: SB Express soccer team wins State Cup

The SB Express U-17 girls soccer team completed a 10-0-0 season by winning the State Recreational Cup on Dec. 9 at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila.

The Express, who are part of the Sno-King Youth Club, won all four of their games in the tournament. They defeated the Sumner Blazers 2-0 in the championship game. Ellen Kahn and Madison Nettles scored goals for the Express in the title contest.

At the conclusion of the tournament, opposing coaches nominated four Express players for MVP honors: Kahn (Edmonds-Woodway High School), Nettles (King’s), Jessica Dyck (Meadowdale) and Tiana Sather (Mountlake Terrace).

For the season, the Express outscored their opponents 49-5.

Other members of the Express included Antonia Hillman, Madeline White, Atty McLellan, Rachel Stone, Hayley Tengs, Chelsea Andrews, Elizabeth Dunne, Marisa Schreckengost, Kassidy Buslach, Claire Popke, Marlee Hudson, Courtney Jurek and Mercedes Valles.

The team was coached by Scott Andrews. He was assisted by Steve Otto.
