The Stanwood Cannons American Legion baseball team won the AA District II tournament last week to earn a spot in this week’s state tournament.
The Cannons defeated Ferndale 10-6 in the district title game on July 27 at the Dream Field in Mount Vernon.
Members of the Stanwood team included Joshua Orcutt, Walter Thomas, Matthew Pelham, Chad Murdock, John Lenz, Levi Plummer, Tomas Enquist, Mark Pelham, Brandon Thomas, Kyle Greene, Tyler Green, Michael McCune, David Gerdes, Kaleb Orcutt, Nicholas Jacobs and Michael Epperson.
The team was managed by Stanwood High School coach Tony Wolden and coached by Cameron Schmidt and Ross Webster.
Roller skating
U.S. Championships: Kelley Scace of Everett won a gold medal Saturday at the U.S. Roller Skating Championships in Lincoln, Neb.
Scace won the Novice B Men’s singles division. He is a member of the Everett Expressions Artistic Skating Team.
In other results involving skaters from the Everett team:
— Kyle Scace, Kelley’s 15-year-old son, teamed with 11-year-old Priya Rastogi of Redmond to win a bronze medal in the Freshman A Pairs competition. Kyle Scace earlier won a gold medal in the Freshman/Sophomore B Boys Singles.
— Tyas Hansen, 8, of Everett and Serena DeMello, 7, of Bellevue won a bronze medal in Juvenile A Pairs.
— Kylee Berger won a silver medal in the World Class Ladies Singles and earned a spot on the U.S. team that will compete in the World Championships in November in Taiwan.
— Joshua Rhoads won a silver medal in the World Class Men’s Singles and also earned a spot on the U.S. team that will compete in the World Championships.
