Community sports: Lacrosse players honored

Eight high school lacrosse players from Snohomish County have been named to the Washington All-State Lacrosse preseason teams announced over the weekend by the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association.

The lone Snohomish County player on the Division I first team is midfielder Alex Okemah of the Mukilteo Lacrosse Club. Okemah is a senior at Kamiak High School.

Named to the Division II first team were senior goalie Merrick Rutledge (Everett), senior attack man Chas Stringfellow (Everett), junior attack man Nick Peters (Edmonds), junior defenseman Cameron Warren (Edmonds), senior midfielder Brandon Todd (Snohomish), sophomore defenseman Davyd Powell (Snohomish), and senior defenseman Eric Moisant (Providence).

GNAC honors ex-Panther

Seattle Pacific University basketball player Katie Benson has been named to the All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference second team.

Benson, a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward from Snohomish, averaged 14.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game during the regular season.

This marks the second consecutive year Benson has earned postseason honors. Last year, she was named the GNAC’s co-Freshman of the Year.

Gymnastics

The Everett-based Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy produced four all-around division champions at the Classic Rock Invite held Feb. 17-19 in Phoenix, Ariz.

In the Level 7 competition, Ryzele Lagdaan, 10, of Snohomish, won the Child A Division with a score of 37.575.

In Level 6, Alexandra Smith, 14, of Arlington, placed first on the bars, the beam and the floor exercises to capture the all-around title in the Senior B Division (35.725).

The other all-around champions for Leading Edge were Olivia Hartzell, 10, of Everett, who won the Senior A Division in Level 5 with a score of 36.875, and Erin Boede, 9, of Everett, who won the Junior A Division in Level 4 with a score of 36.775.
