The Sultan High School cheerleading team brought home the big trophy.
Sultan’s entry took first place in its division at the high school state cheerleading championships held Friday and Saturday at Battle Ground High School.
Sultan placed first in the 1A Game Day Small division with a score of 77.5, easily besting second-place Cedar Park Christian, which received a score of 69.
Sultan was one of three Snohomish County schools that brought home trophies.
Kamiak earned second place in the 2A/4A Game Day Medium division, earning a score of 83.5. Kentwood won with a score of 97.25.
Lynnwood won a second-place trophy in the 2A/3A Non-Tumbling Medium division with a score of 69. The Royals were edged out by Steilacoom, which won with a score of 70.75.
Jr. Silvertips 16U team claims state title
The Everett Jr. Silvertips 16-under hockey team won the Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association’s Washington State Tier I Tournament on Monday in Wenatchee.
Everett went 3-1 in round-robin play to qualify for Monday’s championship game, then defeated Sno-King 4-2 in the title tilt. This is the fifth straight year the Tips won the 16U state championship.
Everett advanced to the Pacific District Youth Tier 1 Championships on March 7-10 in Anaheim, California.
Everett’s 18-under team finished as state runner-up. In a best-of-three series against Wenatchee the Tips won the first game 6-1 before falling 6-2 and 8-0 in the final two contests.
EvCC men complete perfect first half
The Northwest Athletic Conference’s North Region reached the midpoint of basketball league play last Wednesday, and the Everett Community College men are halfway to repeating as region champions.
Everett bested Bellevue 110-108 in double overtime last Wednesday to finish the first half 7-0.
The Trojans lead second-place Edmonds (5-2, 14-7) by two games. Seven games remain in the regular season.
On the women’s side, both Everett and Edmonds have work to do to earn a postseason berth.
Everett (3-4, 8-14) is tied for fifth in the North Region and Edmonds (2-5, 7-8) is in seventh. The top four teams qualify for the NWAC Basketball Championships.
