All right, Everett’ season gets started tonight. I know I’m ready for the preseason to be over and the real games to begin. So are the coaches and management, who now have something else to concern themselves with other than the question of who’s coming back from NHL camps and when.
Usually this would be the time to make predictions about the season. My history is pretty brutal when it comes to predicting sports events. So instead I’m going to predict things that WON’T happen this season.
– I predict new Everett coach John Becanic won’t receive as many bench minors as his predacessor, Kevin Constantine.
– I predict Everett won’t shed its title of least popular franchise in the U.S. Division, despite the departure of Constantine, who was a focal point for opposition fury.
– I predict Zach Hamill won’t repeat as the league scoring champion. He’ll miss too many games because of World Juniors (yes, he’s going to make the team).
– I predict Kyle Beach won’t win the Brad Hornung Trophy as the league’s most sportsmanlike player.
– I predict Brennan Sonne won’t score at will in shootouts with his patented move the way he did last season. He’ll have to come up with a variation.
– I predict Everett won’t win the U.S. Division by 17 points the way the Tips did last season, though they’ll find a way to top the division again.
– I predict Calgary won’t have to settle for reaching the conference finals like last season and will win the Eastern Conference.
– I predict Vancouver won’t repeat as Memorial Cup champion, but the Giants will win the WHL title that eluded them last season.
