GLENDALE, Ariz. — Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Kurt Sauer was expected to be sidelined at least four weeks because of a lower-body injury.
Sauer was hurt Saturday night in Phoenix’s victory over Dallas.
“It is a big blow for us,” general manager Don Maloney said Sunday. “It will open up an opportunity for someone else to step in and play well.”
Sauer has four assists in 43 games this season, his first with Phoenix.
On Sunday, the Coyotes recalled left wing Daniel Winnik from San Antonio of the American Hockey League. The 23-year-old Winnik had an assist in 23 games for the Coyotes this season before being assigned to San Antonio for conditioning on Jan. 1.
