TORONTO — Chad Barrett scored in the 64th minute Saturday to give Toronto FC a 1-1 tie with Columbus that kept the MLS champion Crew winless.
Toronto (3-2-3) extended its unbeaten streak to three games despite some defensive lapses.
The Crew, who lost highly respected coach Sigi Schmid to the Seattle Sounders in the offseason, are now 0-2-5 — the worst start in Columbus’ 14-year history and the worst for a defending champion.
Columbus has still never lost to Toronto in eight meetings, winning three and drawing five. The two tied 1-1 in Ohio earlier this season.
