CHICAGO — The Chicago placed right-handed relief pitcher Neil Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with left abdominal soreness.
Ramirez says he’s been bothered by the soreness for a few days and experienced pain while warming up for Tuesday’s game with the Colorado Rockies. Ramirez says he doesn’t believe the injury is related to his oblique.
The Cubs promoted right-hander Yoervis Medina and selected the contract of sinkerball pitcher Ben Rowen from Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs signed Rowen on July 5 after the Baltimore Orioles released him. Medina was acquired from Seattle in a trade that sent catcher Welington Castillo to the Mariners.
The Cubs optioned pitcher Dallas Beeler to Triple-A Iowa. Beeler lasted only 1 1/3 innings in Tuesday night’s 7-2 loss to the Rockies. Also, the Cubs designated Mike Baxter for assignment.
