Darrington wins battle of unbeatens

COUPEVILLE — The Coupeville Wolves came out on the short end of a matchup of two undefeated teams Friday night.

Darrington used its full-court press and efficient 3-point shooting to outlast Coupeville 55-49 in the non-conference contest.

“It was a good basketball game,” Coupeville coach Randy King said. “Both teams played hard.”

The Loggers shot 4-for-5 from the perimeter in the second half, making good use of their looks from outside. The Wolves, however, shot just 3-for-18 from behind the arc during the final two periods, and that proved to be a difference maker.

King added that Darrington employed a full-court press the entire game, forcing the Wolves into turning the ball over 13 times to the Loggers’ nine.

Coupeville battled back in the fourth quarter to get to within six, but couldn’t pull any closer.

Justin O’Dell had 16 points, and Cory Hoveskeland had 13 points on the strength of three 3-pointers to lead Darrington.

Kramer O’Keefe led Coupeville with 13 points and Brian Miller added 12. Alex Evans hit two 3-pointers to finish with six points for the Wolves.
