Darrington wins three individual titles in 1A/B sub-regional

DARRINGTON – Darrington wrestlers won three individual championships in the Class 1A/B sub-regional meet Saturday at Darrington.

Justin Friddle won the 130-pound title with a first-round pin. Tyler Burns posted a 15-0 technical fall over his opponent at 145 pounds. And Jake White took an 8-3 decision at 189 pounds.

Concrete dominated the meet, winning in eight weight classes and advancing 19 wrestlers to next week’s regional meet at Bellevue Christian.

In addition to its three champions, Darrington qualified five wrestlers.

Archbishop Murphy, fielding a team for the first time, advanced 11 wrestlers.

2A sub-district meet: Returning state champion, Ryan Conley of Sultan, continued his perfect season winning the 130-pound championship. Conley, 27-0 this season, was named Wrestler of the Year by the coaches and was one of six Turks to qualify for next week’s regional tournament. Lakewood had 10 wrestlers qualify, including four title winners-Steve Edmonds (103 pounds), Lee Ervine (160 pounds), Talon Venturo (189 pounds) and Mac Pederson (275 pounds).

3A sub-regional: Meadowdale’s Kai Bruno was the top Western Conference placer, taking second at 112 pounds. Meadowdale finished seventh in the team standings followed by Lynnwood in eighth.
