CALGARY, Alberta — American star Shani Davis set the track record in winning the men’s 1,000 meters on Sunday at the World Cup, while Canadian speedskater Christine Nesbitt won a pair of gold medals and helped set a world record.
Davis finished in 1 minute, 6.91 seconds at the Olympic Oval, well ahead of Lee Kyou-Hyuk of South Korea in 1:07.61. Denny Morrison of Canada was third in 1:07.77.
Nesbitt won the women’s 1,000-meter race in 1:14.03, then teamed with Kristina Groves and Brittany Schussler to set the world record in the team pursuit.
Their time of 2:55.79 was 25-hundreds faster than the mark that Daniela Anschutz Thoms, Annie Friesinger-Postma and Claudia Pechstein set in 2005.
Annette Gerritsen of the Netherlands was second in the women’s 1,000 in 1:14.48, and Monique Angermueller of Germany third in 1:14.68. The top American was Jennifer Rodriguez in seventh.
Japan was second in women’s pursuit in 2:59.79, while Germany took bronze in 3:00.25.
