EVERETT — Hurt repeatedly by defensive miscues, the Everett AquaSox lost 7-6 to the Spokane Indians on Tuesday in a Northwest League baseball game at Everett Memorial Stadium. It was the fourth consecutive defeat for Everett, which sits in last place in the West Division with a record of 16-26.
Eric Fry was 3-for-5 with a two-run home run for East Division-leading Spokane (32-10).
Everett had three errors. All of them were committed by shortstop Anthony Phillips, and two led directly to runs for Spokane.
“Our defense didn’t play real good. We gave up two or three runs,” Everett manager Jose Moreno said.
Phillips’s final error allowed Spokane to take a 7-4 lead with two out in the top of the ninth inning. A grounder hit by David Paisano skidded between Phillips’s legs and allowed Fry to score.
Everett stormed back in its half of the ninth. After Phillips hit a one-out single, Tyson Gillies blasted a pitch by Spokane reliever Justin Miller over the left-field wall for a two-run homer. Welington Dotel’s two-out triple gave Manelik Pimentel a chance to tie the game with a base hit, but the game ended when Miller got Pimentel to pop out.
Spokane was 4-1 in the five-game series with Everett. But four contests, including three Spokane victories, were decided by one run.
The AquaSox have a day off Wednesday. They start a three-game road series against the Eugene Emeralds on Thursday.
