The Alderwood Little League 12-year-old all-stars won the District One baseball championship Friday with a 5-1 victory over Pacific Little League in Arlington.
Alderwood pitchers Kyler McMahan and Bryce Milne combined for 18 strikeouts in the game, 16 by McMahan, who earned the win. Jared Whitman hit a two-run home run in the first inning, giving Alderwood a 3-0 lead. It was Whitman’s fourth HR of the tournament.
The win earned Alderwood a berth in the state tournament, which opens Saturday in Vancouver.
Other members of the Alderwood team include Brady Girgus, Ryley Johnson, David Cooper, Everardo Panell, Trent Mosier, Dane Evanger, Nolan Takeya, Danny Smart and Connor O’Brien. The team is managed by Mike Girgus and coached by Ed Panell and Jim Cooper.
