BEIJING — Nataliia Dobrynska won the heptathlon at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday, leading a gold-silver finish for Ukraine.
Dobrynska had a 145-point lead over Hyleas Fountain and was 151 clear of teammate Lydumila Blonska going into the last discipline, the 800, having extended her cushion over both with a superior mark in the javelin.
The 2004 world indoor champion finished last in the final graded 800 race, but earned enough points to hold off Blonska, who served a two-year doping ban before coming back to take silver at last year’s world championships.
Dobrynska finished with 6,733 points, 33 clear of Blonska. Fountain took bronze with 6,619.
Defending Olympic and world champion Carolina Kluft quit the event to concentrate on the long jump at Beijing.
