Gregg Drinnan is reporting that Silvertips defenseman Dominik Bittner has signed with Adler Mannheim in his native Germany.
This means Bittner will not be back in Everett next season competing for one of the three overage roster spots. It was always unlikely that Bittner would claim one of those three spots, since he would have been a two-spotter who also counted against Everett’s two European roster spots. However, there was a possibility the Tips would have retained Bittner because Everett will probably be severely depleted on defense next season.
This means Everett has no Euros left on its roster. Therefore the Tips will likely select twice in June’s import draft. I have to think at least one of those picks will be used on a defenseman.
Bittner’s departure leaves Everett with four potential overagers for next season: forwards Ryan Harrison, Cody Fowlie and JT Barnett and goaltender Kent Simpson.
