LIVERPOOL, England — Landon Donovan would be happy to extend his loan deal at Everton a little longer before he returns to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The attacking midfielder scored and set up a goal as a second-half substitute in Everton’s 5-1 victory over Hull on Sunday. Afterward he said there was a chance he might continue playing in the Premier League before returning to America in time for the Major League Soccer season later this month.
“First of all, winning was important and it’s nice to get a goal,” Donovan said. “There is a chance. We will know more this week.
“The fans, the people here are fantastic, the players are fantastic. I’ve enjoyed it here tremendously.”
Donovan still has a game with Everton at Birmingham on Saturday.
“I said to him ‘go on and finish (at home) with a goal,”’ Everton manager David Moyes said. “I thought he finished it great. The efforts he has put in for us over the past two months is terrific.”
Moyes said he would talk with the Galaxy about keeping Donovan a little longer.
“I might try and see if I can extend it a little bit longer but, at the moment, the word from America is that it won’t be possible and we respect that decision,” Moyes said.
