The Everett AquaSox announced Friday that Rich Dorman has been named the team’s pitching coach for the 2009 Northwest League baseball season.
Dorman, 30, is currently under minor-league contract with the Seattle Mariners, but he’s on the disabled list after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder.
“Rich has been in rehab in Arizona recovering from right shoulder surgery,” said Pedro Grifol, the M’s director of minor league operations. “In the meantime, this is a great opportunity for us to use his experience and knowledge of pitching. AquaSox young pitchers can learn a lot from him.”
Dorman, a native of Medford, Ore., has spent nine seasons in the minor leagues. In 2008 he split time between Class AAA Tacoma and Class AA West Tennessee. He was a combined 9-6 with a 3.26 earned-run average.
In 217 career minor-league games, including 128 starts, Dorman has a record of 52-43 and a 3.80 ERA. He made 15 starts for the AquaSox in 2002, going 5-6 with a 4.30 ERA.
Last year, Dorman was a recipient of the prestigious Ellis Award, which recognizes community involvement by players in Seattle’s minor-league system.
