The Seattle Seahawks are on the verge of adding their third, and possibly fourth, new defensive player in the next few days.
Defensive tackle Chartric Darby, a starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has agreed to terms with the team. The unrestricted free agent will reportedly receive a $800,000 signing bonus along with his three-year, $3 million contract.
Darby, 29, is expected to challenge Rashad Moore for a starting spot. Moore struggled with a shoulder injury throughout 2004 and eventually had to have surgery.
Seattle could also officially sign cornerback Kelly Herndon this week. Because Herndon is a restricted free agent, the Denver Broncos have until Thursday morning to match the Seahawks’ five-year, $15 million offer for him.
The Seahawks have already added outside linebacker Kevin Bentley (Cleveland) and defensive end Bryce Fisher (St. Louis) in free agency. They have also spoken with middle linebacker Edgerton Hartwell, who narrowed his choices to Seattle and Atlanta late last week.
