E-W achieves perfect record

EDMONDS — It didn’t look good for Edmonds-Woodway.

Vying for an undefeated season and their fourth straight Wesco South dual meet championship, the Warriors were behind Jackson by a point and trailing in the two remaining doubles matches Friday before pulling out a 4-3 victory.

“All of a sudden No. 3 doubles reels off five straight games and No. 2 gets a break back, holds serve and breaks again at 6-5,” E-W coach Dan Crist said.

The comebacks by Sean Laue and Alex Knell (No. 2 doubles) and Jake Lagucik and Alex Frederickson (No. 3) gave the Warriors their second outright championship in three years (They tied with Jackson in 2006) and their first unbeaten season during the four-year title run.

“It’s been more carryover than anything,” Crist said, explaining the unbeaten record. “It was guys working hard in practice, pulling for each other and just being a team. It’s never been about one guy, it’s been a team effort.”
