SEATTLE — Edmonds resident Colleen Bryant cruised to the gold medal in the female 5,000-meter run Monday at the Special Olympics USA Games.
Bryant, who has completed eight marathons and is sponsored by Brooks Running Company, took first place out of three runners with a winning time of 21 minutes, 59.91 seconds at the University of Washington’s Husky Track.
Stephen Barkholz, of Darrington, earned a bronze medal in bowling at Kenmore Lanes. He placed third out of seven bowlers in his division with a three-game combined score of 377.
The Washington volleyball team won its first two pool-play matches, beating North Carolina 2-0 and Michigan 2-1. The team includes five Snohomish County players: Stacey Conser (Lynnwood), Andrea Hall (Marysville), Marcus Hall (Marysville), Jeff Kirby (Everett) and Roland Kirby (Marysville).
The Washington female basketball team also won its first two pool-play matches, beating Southern California 26-12 and Kansas 22-8. The team includes Agwin Atem (Everett), Melanie Hernandez (Everett), Uzo Okoro (Edmonds) and Crystal Yetter (Edmonds).
