Edmonds-Woodway scores last to win 35-32 thriller

EVERETT – In a game that featured seven different lead changes, Edmonds-Woodway scored last and blocked a late Jackson field goal attempt to hold on and beat the Timberwolves 35-32 in a Western Conference South Division contest Friday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.

After forcing Jackson to punt late in the fourth quarter, the Warriors took over at their own 31-yard line. Behind the running of Kyle Trew, Edmonds-Woodway drove down the field to Jackson’s 12-yard line to set up a third-and-3 with 37 seconds remaining. On the next play from scrimmage quarterback Chris Maine hit tight end Casey Tyler for the game-winning touchdown.

With the victory the Warriors (3-2 in league and overall) remained in the hunt for a Wesco playoff spot. Jackson is 3-2.

In the first half, Edmonds-Woodway jumped out to an early 22-7 lead behind the running of Trew. The junior tailback ran for three touchdowns and finished the game with 305 yards on 25 carries.

Behind by 15 points, Jackson wasted no time in getting back into the game after halftime. After C.J. Marsh ran in a pair of 1-yard touchdowns to draw the Timberwolves within a field goal, Jackson stopped Edmonds-Woodway on the Warrior’s own 1-yard line.

Jackson then preceded to go 99 yards in three plays capped off by an 88-yard pass play from quarterback Jason Morris to Craig Chambers to take their first lead in the game 26-22. Chambers finished the game with 264 yards on 10 receptions.

But, in remarkable fashion, Trew took the next play from scrimmage 76 yards for a touchdown to get the lead back. And in keeping with the theme of the night, Jackson took their next possession and drove 80 yards in eight plays to retake the lead on a Morris 7-yard touchdown run just before Edmonds-Woodway’s last drive of the night.
