Edmonds-Woodway wins battle of the unbeatens vs. M-P

EDMONDS – Edmonds-Woodway emerged victorious in a battle of unbeaten teams, edging Marysville-Pilchuck 27-25, 25-23, 13-25, 11-25, 15-10 in a non-league match Tuesday.

After winning the first two games, Edmonds-Woodway lost its focus, said coach Mike Pittis. But in the fifth game, “We passed and served well, we got some quality swings and we got a couple of big blocks.”

Once in the lead, the Warriors (4-0 overall) were content to trade points with the Tommies (3-1).

For Edmonds-Woodway, Katie Trew had eight kills and 18 digs, Tiana Roma had 12 kills and six blocks and Erin Greenwood had six kills and five blocks.

For Marysville-Pilchuck, Korissa Clevish had 44 assists, Morgan Zamora had 14 kills, three blocks and two service aces and Micaela Parker had 27 kills, three blocks and three aces.

Snohomish 3, Everett 2: At Everett, Snohomish (2-1 overall) bounced back after losing the first two sets with three-straight victories in its non-conference victory over Everett (3-1). The Panthers won 21-25, 7-25, 25-18, 26-16, 15-9.

Arlington 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Mountlake Terrace, Kristin McKeown had 10 kills and five blocks, Whitney Williams had 24 assists and Lauren Aalmo served 8-for-8 with three aces and had four blocks and five kills as Arlington (1-3 overall) won the non-league match. Mountlake Terrace is 0-4.

Meadowdale 3, Stanwood 1: At Lynnwood, Meadowdale dropped the first set and was on its way to its 15th-consecutive loss until the Mavericks dug deep to win the non-league match 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 27-25. “Our team just had this quiet confidence about them tonight,” said Mavericks coach Jennifer Knisely. Lindi Tellefson tallied 16 kills, two aces and 13 digs, Ashlee Ross distributed 27 assists and sophomores Caitlyn Rohrbach and Maggie Brewe combined for 11 kills and four aces to pace Meadowdale (1-3 overall). Katelin Parks’ 21 kills and Amanda Allred’s 34 assists led Stanwood (1-3).

Kamiak 3, Cascade 0: At Mukilteo, Alison Swanson had 27 assists and four aces and Abby Lee added 10 kills and six aces to key Kamiak’s 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 non-league win. The Knights improved to 4-0 overall, while the Bruins fell to 0-4.

Shorecrest 3, Mount Vernon 0: At Shoreline, Karis Grounds contributed 13 kills, 13 digs, and three aces; Becky Scherer had eight kills and five blocks, and Lauren Herold produced 24 assists and 12 digs in Shorecrest’s 25-1, 29-27, 25-11 non-league win. The Scots improved to 3-1 overall. Mount Vernon is 3-2.

Monroe 3, Lynnwood 2: At Lynnwood, Sisters Sarah (11 kills, three blocks, 13-for-14 serving) and Whitney Mueller (nine kills) helped Monroe win the non-league match 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 15-10. Brittany Rose had 25 assists for the Bearcats (3-2 overall). For Lynnwood (2-2), Julie Nguyen had 44 assists, Molly Hunsinger had 13 kills, Brit Thoreson had 11 kills, Kelsey Ayres had 12 blocks and Daylene Wilkie had 6 aces.

South Whidbey 3, Sultan 0: At Sultan, South Whidbey’s Jordan Tobler had seven kills as the Falcons (4-1 overall) won the non-league match 25-9, 25-4, 25-7. Sultan is 0-6.

Coupeville 3, Lakewood 2: At Coupeville, Vanessa Davis had nine kills, Taniel Lamb had seven kills and seven service aces, Mindy Horr had nine assists and Brook Croghan had nine assists to lead Coupeville (4-1 overall) to the 23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 15-6 non-league win. For Lakewood (3-2), Melissa Vanderwel had 10 kills, Dakota Gemmer had nine kills, Brianne Tangen had 20 assists and Audrey Olssen had 18 digs.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Overlake 0: At Bellevue, Archbishop Murphy (3-2 overall) won the non-league game 25-11, 25-16, 25-23. For the Wildcats, Kyla Thompson had four kills, two blocks and three service aces, Kaitlin Hardy had seven assists and four aces and Ashley Warner had five kills. Overlake is 1-2.

La Conner 3, Darrington 0: At La Conner, defending Northwest A champion La Conner (2-1 overall) swept Darrington (2-1 overall) 25-23, 25-14, 25-22.

Shoreline Christian 3, Summit 0: At Seattle, Shoreline Christian (3-0 overall) won its third-straight game by defeating Summit (0-1) 28-26, 25-19, 25-21 in a non-conference game.

Boys tennis

Shorewood 7, Lynnwood 0: Nomar Mapalo won at No. 1 singles to initiate Shorewood’s sweep in the Wesco South meet.
