Eisinger brothers to team up again

Eisinger brothers, unite.

Drew and Jamie Eisinger, brothers who combined to win The Herald’s past two All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year awards, are teaming up again.

Drew, a 2006 Jackson High School alum, and Jamie, a Jackson senior, both verbally committed to play hoops for Eastern Washington University over the weekend during an official recruiting visit.

The guards will become the first Jackson athletes to receive Division-IA men’s basketball scholarships, Jackson coach Steve Johnson said.

“To have two (D-I players) and to have them be brothers is pretty remarkable,” Johnson said. “They had a goal and stuck to it. I definitely think they earned it in terms of their hard work and performance.”

The Eisingers will both enter Eastern Washington as freshmen with full college eligibility. Drew is a year older but he attended Western Reserve Academy (Hudson, Ohio) this past season.

Keep your eye on the bouncing bean

What in the world do beans have to do with softball? Hand-eye coordination, of course. The Jackson softball team recently began swinging at lima beans during its pre-game warmups. Based on a suggestion from senior Morgan Frost, Jackson coach Mike Moran tried the bean method. “It works pretty well, actually,” said Moran, who stands about 8 feet away from hitters and tosses the beans underhand. The unorthodox drill boosts hand-eye coordination and makes a softball look like a beach ball. So what’s next for the hard-hitting Timberwolves? BBs?

Cascade, Sultan guards go Comm. College route

Dirk Snel, a Cascade senior, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Everett Community College. An All-Wesco North first team and Herald All-Area first-team honoree as a senior, Snel averaged 23.2 points during the 2006-2007 season. The guard set several school records, including points in a season (463), 3-point baskets in a game (seven), 3-pointers in a season (69) and 3-pointers in a career (144). Meanwhile, R.J. Perkins of Sultan, a Herald All-Area 2A/1A/2B/1B first team pick, will play for Bellevue CC. Perkins averaged about 19 points for the Turks in his senior season.

Four Kamiak swimmers cement college plans

The following senior girls from Kamiak will swim in college: Lara Sreibers (University of Nevada, Las Vegas), Taryn Van Gerpen (San Diego) and Claire Jordan (Lewis &Clark). “I don’t think I have ever had three girls improve so much during their senior year, especially Lara,” Kamiak coach Chris Erickson said. Also, Jon Bedier, a diver and swimmer on the Kamiak boys team, plans to walk on at Hawaii.

First lady

Stevie Ryals of Sultan made school history Thursday in a girls golf match against Cedarcrest. Ryals, a member of the Turks’ first-year program, scored the most modified Stableford points to become the first female medalist in school history.
