The Everett Rowing Association’s men’s four breezed to a victory in its opening heat Friday at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Oakridge. Tenn.
The Everett crew was timed in 6:24.43 over 2,000 meters to win by more than 21/2 seconds over the runner-up boat from the South County Crew (Va.). The men’s four, which includes David Shur (Jackson High School), Eric Engel (Snohomish), Griffin Siadek (Lake Stevens), Beau Skalley (Archbishop Murphy) and coxswain Amber Cary (Archbishop Murphy), advances to a semifinal heat today.
The Everett women’s lightweight eight placed third in its first heat, eight seconds behind the winning boat from the Los Gatos (Calif.) Rowing Club. The Everett men’s lightweight eight was fourth in its opening race, timed in 6:01.77, some 13 seconds behind the winning boat from the Los Gatos Rowing Club.
Both Everett’s lightweight boats race today in repechage heats.
