TALKING POINTS
OK, I’m running on fumes, so I’m going to keep it short tonight. The game felt a little sleepy tonight, but that may be because the cold medicine was dulling my senses. Lot of penalties, particularly in the third, and it was a crapshoot end to a crapshoot game.
Some notes:
– Kyle Beach scored the only goal in the shootout for Everett with the exact same shot he used to decide Sunday’s 4-3 shootout victory in Kennewick, going stick side on Chet Pickard.
– Everett left wing Clayton Bauer received a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct for his hit on Tri-City defenseman Jarrett Toll in the second period. Bauer faces a potential suspension for the hit.
– Everett coach John Becanic showed himself to be a true Kevin Constantine diciple as he used the changing the goalies ploy as a pseudo timeout after a no-change icing.
– Keep in mind the trade deadline is at 2 p.m. tomorrow. There’s already been a lot of fireworks around the league, so there might not be much powder left in the keg, especially with so few sellers scattered about the league. But we’ll see what happens.
TURNING POINT
The combination of Bauer’s major penalty and Jesse Burt’s minor for interference gave Tri-City a two-minute five-on-three early in the third period. The Americans capitalized on Colton Yellow Horn’s goal to tie it 2-2 and eventually earn a point.
HIT OF THE DAY
Didn’t have the energy to pay close enough attention tonight.
THREE STARS
First star: Dan Gendur, Everett. Two goals and is playing his best hockey of the season — 12 points in his last six games.
Second star: Jason Reese, Tri-City. A goal and an assist, though both came with a little fortune.
Third star: Leland Irving, Everett. Solid game in goal, and stopped all three shots in the shootout.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Yellow Horn, Tri-City. He’s become quite the all-around player this season.
LINEUP NOTES
For Everett, defenseman Graham Potuer missed his first game of the season. He suffered a bruised sternum in Sunday’s 4-3 shootout victory at Tri-City and is listed as day to day. With Potuer sitting out Lukas Vartovnik is the lone remaining Tip to appear in every game this season. Center Zack Dailey also missed his sixth straight game because of a groin injury, but right wing Matt Ius was back after sitting out one game with an ankle injury. Right wing Eric English and defenseman Chris de la Lande were healthy scratches.
Tri-City has been victimized by concussions as center Shaun Vey, right wing Taylor Procyshen and defenseman Brett Plouffe were all sidelined because of the ailment. The Americans had left wing Radek Meidl, the Seattle castoff who had been playing in his native Czech Republic, in the lineup for the first time. Defenseman Nolan Toigo, who Tri-City acquired from Vancouver in a trade Tuesday, remains in the BCHL.
