Everett AquaSox, now 8-4, top Spokane Indians 10-5

SPOKANE — The Everett AquaSox pounded out a dozen hits, and Kyle Lewis and Jhombeyker Morales each drove in three runs as the Frogs topped the Spokane Indians 10-5 in Northwest League baseball action Tuesday at Avista Stadium.

Lewis has eight RBI in his past two games after tallying just one through Everett’s first nine contests.

The Frogs (8-4) won their second straight and sixth game in their past seven. Spokane (4-8) has lost five in a row and six of seven.

Everett starter Luiz Gohara (2-0) scattered seven hits and struck out nine, including the final three hitters he faced in the fifth inning. Gohara allowed all five runs, just three were earned.

AquaSox relievers Tim Viehoff and Elliott Surrey combined for four innings of one-hit, one-walk ball and fanned five. Spokane struck out 14 times in the contest.

Johan Juan (0-1) was the hard-luck loser in relief of starter Reid Anderson as Everett’s first six runs were unearned.

The Frogs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Bryson Brigman walked and scored on a two-out error, and Morales drove in Lewis and Nick Zammarelli with a two-run single.

The Indians got two runs back in the bottom of the frame thanks to two throwing Everett throwing errors and an RBI single by Luis Terrero.

Blaine Prescott’s three-run home run in the bottom of the second to give the Indians a 5-3 lead.

The AquaSox reclaimed the lead for good in the fourth when Jose Leal scored on an error and Lewis drove in a pair with a two-out single to make it 6-5.

Everett tacked on three more in the sixth as Austin Grebeck scored on an error, Jordan Cowan hit a solo home run and Lewis scored on an RBI single by Morales to make it 9-5.

Lewis drove in Cowan with a single in the eighth for the final run.

Morales finished with three hits. Lewis, Cowan and Leal each had two.

Brandon Miller will start for Everett tonight against Spokane’s Jacob Shortslef. The game begins at 6:30 p.m.
