Everett beats Portland 7-2

PORTLAND, Ore. — Vitali Karamnov is finding his stride as an Everett Silvertip.

Everett’s Russian rookie turned in a four-point night, and the Silvertips defeated the Portland Winter Hawks 7-2 Saturday night.

Karamnov took some time to settle in, but with two goals and two assists against Portland, he now has 10 points in his past 10 games.

Kyle Beach added a goal and two assists for Everett (21-19-0-2), which has racked up 20 goals in its past four games. Zach Hamill, Clayton Bauer, Jesse Burt and Jonathan Harty also scored for the Tips and Leland Irving finished with 28 saves in goal.

Jacob Dietrich and Radim Valchar scored for Portland (7-31-0-1). Kurtis Mucha finished with 39 saves in goal for the Winter Hawks.

Portland kept the game close early, despite a heavy advantage in power plays tilted toward Everett, and the Tips led just 3-2 midway through the second period. However, Karamnov gave Everett some breathing room with goals midway through the second and early in the third, and the Tips ended up scoring the game’s final four goals.

Everett finished the game 3-for-9 on the power play, Portland finished 1-for-6.

Everett was on the favorable end of many first-period calls, receiving six power plays to none for Portland, and although the Tips scored on just one of those power plays they emerged with a 3-1 lead. Beach opened the scoring just 2 minutes, 50 seconds in when he scored on a rebound, then Hamill took advantage of confusion in the Portland defense to put the Tips ahead 2-0 at 12:29. Portland struck back when Dietrich scored short-handed at 17:44, but Bauer scored on a rebound on a five-on-three advantage with 10 seconds remaining to restore Everett’s two-goal lead.

Portland pulled back within one again with a power-play goal of its own 4:55 into the second period, Valchar scoring on a rebound.
