Everett CC women and men win NWAAC games Saturday

NWAAC Tournament

EvCC men 72, Highline 69: At Kennewick, sophomore guard Jon Moe, a Shorecrest High alum, scored 24 points to lead the Trojans over the Thunderbirds in the consolation bracket of the tournament on Saturday. Kamiak product Chris Grounds had 13 points and six assists and Monroe alum Stephen Waltman snared 15 rebounds and blocked five shots for EvCC. The Trojans play Whatcom CC at 10 a.m. today for the tournament’s fifth-place spot.

EvCC men 92, South Puget Sound 86: At Kennewick, Moe scored a game-high 36 points as the Trojans beat the Clippers in Friday night’s late game.

EvCC women 80, Umpqua 70: At Kennewick, Bryna Trescott scored a game-high 26 points, grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds and blocked a game-high three shots to lead the Trojans over the Riverhawks in the consolation bracket of the tournament on Saturday. Everett plays Seattle today at 10 a.m. with the winner taking fifth place in the tourney and the loser getting eighth.

Men

Whitworth 96, University of Puget Sound 69: At Spokane, Meadowdale High alum Taylor Marsh scored 18 points for the Loggers in their loss to the Pirates in the Northwest Conference championship game.

Western Washington 93, Montana St.-Billings 67: At Billings, Mont., guard Ira Graham scored 31 points, 19 in the second half, to help the Vikings (14-11, 7-9 GNAC) beat the Yellowjackets (1-27, 1-16).

Women

Alaska Anchorage 65, Western Washington 53: At Anchorage, Alaska, a 3-point barrage from guard Amanda Dunbar, aMarysville-Pilchuck High alum, wasn’t enough to keep the Vikings (8-21, 5-12 GNAC)from losing to the Seawolves (25-3, 14-2). Dunbar had a game-high 19 points for Western, hitting five of nine 3-pointers, including five of her first six attempts.

Portland St. 75, Eastern Washington 71: At Cheney, Snohomish High alum Sydney Benson scored 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots for the Eagles (4-23, 1-13 Big Sky) in their loss to the Vikings (20-7, 10-4).

Alaska-Fairbanks 47, Central Washington 44: At Fairbanks, Alaska, Meadowdale high alum Ashley Fenimore scored eight points for the Wildcats (13-12, 5-12 GNAC) in their loss to the Nanooks (11-13, 4-12)
