KENNEWICK — The Trojan women are still alive.
Lake Stevens High alum Kristina Schumacher scored 22 points and Monroe alum Keena Hopkins added 21 to help Everett Community College defeat Clackamas 77-71 Friday in a loser-out game at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament at the Toyota Center.
Earlier Friday, Schumacher was named the most valuable player in the NWAACC North Division and Trojans coach Chet Hovde was honored as coach of the year. Everett High alum Oliana Seanoa, who had six points in Friday’s game, was selected to the all-Division first team.
With a victory today, Everett will advance to the fifth-place game on Sunday. The Trojans play the winner of the Skagit Valley-Umpqua contest, which was in progress as The Herald went to press, in a loser-out game at 4 p.m. today at the Toyota Center.
EvCC men play late, two honored: The Everett Community College men’s game with South Puget Sound was in progress Friday as The Herald went to press. With a victory Friday, the Trojans would advance to play Highline in a loser-out contest at 4 p.m. today at the Toyota Center.
Earlier Friday, Kamiak High alum Chris Grounds was honored by the league with selection to the all-North Division first team. Shorecrest alum Jon Moe was a second-team selection.
