REGINA, Saskatchewan – It’s official. The Everett Silvertips are as hot as they’ve ever been in franchise history.

Everett matched its team-record winning streak Saturday night, defeating the Regina Pats 3-2 in a shootout for the Silvertips’ eighth straight victory.

The eight-game winning streak matches Everett’s previous best winning streak, set last season.

Shane Harper and Moises Gutierrez scored goals and Leland Irving made 20 saves for Everett (13-1-0-1). The Silvertips won the shootout 1-0, with Peter Mueller scoring the lone goal and Irving saving all three shots he faced.

Zach Hamill added an assist for Everett, keeping his franchise-best point streak intact. Hamill has scored in all 15 of Everett’s games this season.

Ryan McDonald and Colten Teubert scored for Regina (8-8-1-1) and Linden Rowat made 38 saves.

It looked as though Everett had won it in regulation when, on the power play, Gutierrez scored on a rebound with 5 minutes, eight seconds remaining.

However, eight seconds after the goal, Regina went on a power play of its own, and Teubert scored on a shot from the point at 16:22 to tie it and force overtime.

Both teams had chances to win in overtime, but were unable to beat the opposing goaltender. Then in the shootout, Mueller scored on the opening shot and that proved to be enough.

Everett had its chances in the first period – the Tips had two lengthy five-on-three power plays and Jonathan Harty hit the crossbar – but it was Regina that took a 1-0 lead. The Pats were on the power play when Logan Pyett’s shot from the point deflected off McDonald and past Irving at 10:46.

Everett continued to squander its power-play chances in the second period, and Regina twice drew iron. The Tips finally broke through on their eighth power play of the night to tie it at 18:13. Mueller threw the puck on net, and when Rowat was unable to handle it, Harper poked it home, making it 1-1.

Everett forwards Damir Alic and Ondrej Fiala both rejoined the team Saturday, but neither suited up.
