Everett gets revenge vs. Mount Vernon

TACOMA – The Everett Seagulls softball team’s season came to an end on Saturday when Everett lost 3-2 to Auburn Riverside in a 3A consolation quarterfinal game.

Jessica Carey went 2-for-3 to lead the Seagulls, who tied the game with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

But an error in the bottom of the seventh gave Auburn Riverside the win.

“I feel good about (our season),” Everett head coach Kyle Peacocke said.

And rightfully so. For the first time in school history the Seagulls finished in the top eight at state.

“We had a goal of playing Saturday at state and we met that goal,” Peacocke said.

After falling to North Central 1-0 in a first round thriller, Everett continued to climb up the consolation bracket with a 4-0 win over Issaquah.

Then the Seagulls got some sweet revenge.

In a rematch of the District 1 title game, Everett defeated Mount Vernon 2-1, avenging its loss against the Bulldogs on May 19th.

“I think the girls were looking forward to getting another chance to play them,” Peacocke said. “They were looking for a little bit of redemption.”

Alexander Hudson had two singles and both RBI in that game for Everett, following up another two RBI game against Issaquah.

R.A. Long walks over Archbishop Murphy

WENATCHEE – To win a softball game throwing strikes is key.

Archbishop Murphy walked three batters in the first inning, two of which came around to score, in a 5-0 consolation quarterfinal loss to R.A. Long at Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee.

“Walks,” Archbishop Murphy head coach Linsi Moy said when asked about factors in the game.

R.A. Long’s starting pitcher Baily Harris pitched all seven innings for the Lumberjills, striking out 12 batters and allowing only three hits.

Harris also helped herself out at the plate going 1-for-2 with a double, the game’s only extra base hit.

Brittany Allen was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases for the Wildcats. She and Kayelynne Huggins combined to strike out 12 Lumberjills, who went on to finish fourth in state.

Moy praised the team for their resilence throughout the season, especially early on when rainouts forced the Wildcats to play four games in a row.

“At times we had to scrape down to play with only nine players,” Moy said. “A lot of players really stepped up.

“I’m very proud of how they did this season with all the challenges they faced…They wanted to win.”
