Everett inaugurates field with HR

EVERETT – What a way to christen the new softball field. Hit a home run in the first home at-bat of the first game at Everett High School’s new softball field.

That’s what Victoria Coury did for the Everett Seagulls when she homered in the first inning of their 2-1 victory over Cascade Tuesday night.

“The field is nice. It’s all artifical with no dirt,” Everett coach Kyle Peacocke said.

Coury’s solo homer in the first gave Everett an early 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Jennifer Luatua drove in an insurance run with a two-out RBI double scoring Amy Hudson.

Seagulls pitcher Jessica Carey (2-0), who also won Monday’s game, struck out three and “basically kept the ball down and let the infield play their game,” Peacocke said.

Markeeta Munger drove in Cascade’s lone run with a two-out double in the top of the sixth inning.

Everett (2-0) played its second game in as many nights. Cascade (0-1) hosts Lynden today.
