EUGENE, Ore — The Eugene Emeralds swept the visiting Everett AquaSox in a Northwest League doubleheader Sunday.
Everett won the first game, 3-1, and took the nightcap, 2-1.
In the opener, Nico Hoerner tripled and singled, and Brailyn Marquez allowed just two hits over six innings. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Emeralds.
Luis Aquino got Everett’s Nick Rodriguez to fly out with a runner on first to end the game for his second save of the season.
Marquez (1-1) picked up the win. He struck out eight, walked one and allowed just one run.
Everett tied the game 1-1 in the fourth on a solo home run by Jake Anchia.
Eugene answered in the bottom of the inning when Kwang-Min Kwon scored on a passed ball. The Emeralds tacked on another run in the sixth when Hoerner scored on a wild pitch.
Everett pitcher Carlos Hernandez (1-2) took the loss. He pitched 5 2⁄3 innings, allowing three runs and four hits. He struck out four.
In the nightcap, Hoerner hit a run-scoring single in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. Luis Diaz added an RBI single later in the inning to give the Emeralds a 2-0 advantage.
Everett answered in the top of the next frame when Josh Stowers hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Charlie McConnell to cut the deficit to one.
The Emeralds’ Eugenio Palma got Matt Sanders to fly out with runners on second and third to end the game for his first save of the season.
Sean Barry (2-0) got the win in relief. Everett starter Max Roberts (1-2) took the loss.
