YAKIMA – Strong pitching by 19-year old starter Shawn Nottingham and timely hitting allowed Everett edge Yakima 5-4 Tuesday night in a Northwest League West Division game at Yakima County Stadium.

With the victory, the AquaSox improved to 4-1 and grabbed a two game lead in the west division.

Nottingham (1-0) pitched six innings, scattering five hits, striking out six, allowing no runs and walking just one for the victory.

The Frogs compiled 13 hits, giving them double-digits in hits for the fourth time this season.

Cibney Bello pitched a scoreless eighth and Mark Lowe came on in the ninth, shutting the door on the Bears to earn his first save as a Frog.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, reliever Chad Fillinger took over for Nottingham and allowed Yakima (2-3) to score for four runs on four hits, including Carlos Gonzalez’ Northwest League leading third home run. The big inning cut Everett’s lead to 5-4.

In the top of the seventh, Yung-Chi Chen hit what turned out to be a very important two-run double, scoring Falcon and Ellison who each had singled to start the inning. Chen’s double gave the Frogs what appeared to be a commanding lead at 5-0.

Matt LaHair led off the fourth inning with his second double of the game and sixth of the season. Casey Craig (.500 batting average) followed with a double scoring LaHair.

Michael Wilson then moved Craig to third on a ground out. Craig scored the Frogs’ third run of the game on an RBI single by Omar Falcon (2-for-4), giving Everett a 3-0 lead.

Asdrubal Cabrera led off the top of the third inning with a single, stole second base and then scored when Chen (2-for-5, three RBI) singled him in for the games first run and a AquaSox 1-0 lead.

Everett has scored first in four out of their first five games this season.
