On the final day of the early signing period, Everett High School softball pitcher Cory Mattson formally announced who she’ll play for in college.
Mattson, a senior, signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent earlier today and sent it to her future team, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The two-time All-Wesco North first team honoree and The Herald’s 2006 All-Area Softball Player of the Year signed — officially accepting athletic financial aid — during a ceremony at Everett High attended by school principal Catherine Matthews, athletic director Jo Levin and Seagulls softball coach Kyle Peacocke.
Peacocke said Mattson holds several Everett High program records, including victories in a season (21), career victories (54), strikeouts in a season (262), strikeouts in a career (633), strikeouts in a game (18). She also set single-season records for runs batted in (25), doubles (nine), triples (four) and home runs (five).
