The Everett Silvertips had the day off Tuesday following another stretch of three games in four days/nights.
The Tips played at home Friday, at Seattle Saturday and then were on the ferry to Victoria Sunday morning for a Monday afternoon game with the Royals as part of “Family Day,” a provincial holiday only celebrated by British Columbia. So it wasn’t quite the three games in three days they’ll have this weekend, but it was plenty grueling.
Speaking of that Seattle game, the T-Birds were fined $500 and player Luke Osterman was suspended for a game for “actions of a player in warm-up.” I’m not sure what that means, but it obviously wasn’t enough to get him ejected from the game as he nearly fought Everett’s Spencer Gerth later in the first period.
– The People’s Power Rankings as voted on by media members who follow the league and compiled by www.whlstats.ca guru Paul Figler are back and the Tips have dropped to No. 3. There is also a new No. 1.
– Bob McKenzie has the TSN mid-season draft rankings. He still likes Everett G Carter Hart to be the first netminder taken, but doesn’t anticipate any goalies going in the first round. McKenzie also says this is a down year for the WHL.
– ICYMI: You can read this take on Monday’s game from the perspective of the Victoria Times-Colonist.
– Colleague Andy Eide also takes his weekly look around the league.
