Everett wins Wesco South showdown

EDMONDS – In a battle for the Western Conference South Division volleyball title, Everett won 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 over previously unbeaten Edmonds-Woodway (7-1 in league and 12-1 overall) Thursday.

“This was a very close match,” said Edmonds-Woodway coach Mike Pittis.

Everett’s Rachel Crossen (13 kills and four blocks) feasted on the distribution of Nicole Barhanovich (35 assists). Jennifer Luatua hit the floor for a game-high 27 digs.

Everett (8-0, 11-1) is the division’s No. 1 seed to the Northwest District playoffs.

Charlene Toma registered 24 assists, Tiana Roma had 10 kills and Morgan Harter added eight kills for Edmonds-Woodway.

“This match was high quality volleyball,” Pittis said.

Kamiak 3, Meadowdale 0: At Lynnwood, Serena McCleary’s eight kills and Alison Swansen’s 16 assists led Kamiak (6-2 league, 10-3 overall) to a 25-15, 27-25, 25-18 Wesco South win. Maggie Brewe tallied 13 kills, five blocks and 15 digs to lead Meadowdale (3-5, 5-8).

Shorecrest 3, Shorewood 0: At Shoreline, Lauren Herold had 18 assists and 12 digs to lead Shorecrest (6-2 in league, 10-3 overall) to the 25-20, 25-19, 25-12 Wesco South victory. Shorewood (2-6, 3-10) was led by Shannon Sullivan’s 16 digs.

Jackson 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Mill Creek, Ashley Allen had nine kills, Meaghan Craig had 26 assists and Emilee Eisinger served 20-for-20 to lead Jackson (4-4 league, 7-6 overall) to the 25-14, 25-22, 25-14 Wesco South victory. Samantha Richardson had five kills and four blocks and Jessica Schrock had eight kills and three blocks for Mountlake Terrace (0-8, 0-12).

Oak Harbor 3, Monroe 2: At Monroe, Oak Harbor (4-4 in league, 7-7 overall) won the back-and-forth Wesco North match by game scores of 25-16, 24-26, 28-26, 22-25, 18-16. Rachael Pitt (12 kills), Ashley Kingma (35 assists, eight aces) and Heidi McNeill (10 kills, four blocks) paced the Wildcats. Whitney Mueller (18 kills, 11-for-12 serving), Brittney Ascherl (21 kills) and Brittany Rose (40 assists) led Monroe (3-4, 7-6).

Mount Vernon 3, Stanwood 0: At Mount Vernon, Lauren Vermulm contributed 10 kills and eight blocks, Laura Peterson had 12 kills and nine blocks and Miriam Taylor garnered 26 assists and three blocks, leading Mount Vernon (5-2 league, 8-4 overall) to a 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 Wesco North win. Mount Vernon clinched the division’s third district spot. The loss by Stanwood (3-3, 4-7) put its district qualification in jeopardy. The Spartans were led by the 32 assists of Amanda Allred.

Lake Stevens 3, Arlington 0: At Lake Stevens, Megan Watkins had six kills and Molly Bradshaw tallied 15 assists and was 12-for-12 from the service line to lead Lake Stevens (1-6 league, 3-9 overall) to a 25-17, 25-17, 29-27 Wesco North win. Lauren Aalmo was 14-for-14 serving and Whitney Williams had 14 assists to pace Arlington (0-7, 1-11).

Snohomish 3, Cascade 0: At Everett, Courtney Schneider had 16 kills, Whitney Nichols was 24-for-24 serving and Jenny Heard and Jordan Wild combined for 14 kills to lead Snohomish (7-0 in league, 12-1 overall) to the 25-14, 25-12, 25-16 Wesco North victory. Leslie Compean had 11 kills for Cascade (3-4, 3-9).

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Meridian 0: At Bellingham, Korissa Clevish had 28 assists and five kills, Micaela Parker had 14 kills, 12 digs and three aces and Nikole Thompson added 10 kills and fives aces for Marysville-Pilchuck (11-2 overall) in a 25-20, 26-24, 25-19 non-conference victory. Meridian is 12-2.

Blaine 3, Granite Falls 0: At Blaine, Blaine (4-4 league, 6-8 overall) swept the North Cascades match 25-21, 25-21, 25-16. Granite Falls (1-7, 2-12) was led by Becca Bowers (10-of-11 serves) and Casey Jensen (seven blocks).

Nooksack Valley 3, South Whidbey 0: At Everson, Bronwyn Russell passed out 13 assists and Amy Brown managed 16 digs in South Whidbey’s 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 North Cascades loss. The Falcons (5-2 league, 10-3 overall) play Lynden Christian Saturday for second place in the conference. Nooksack Valley (5-3, 8-5) could overtake South Whidbey for third place with a Falcon loss.

Mount Baker 3, Sultan 0: At Deming, Mount Baker (4-4 league, 6-8 overall) swept the North Cascades match by scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-7. Brandy Bleily (three blocks, one service ace, 10 assists) and Emmalee Donaldson (two kills, three assists) led Sultan (0-8, 0-16).

King’s 3, Tacoma Baptist 0: At Shoreline, King’s secured a share of first place in the Chinook League with Bellevue Christian by beating Tacoma Baptist 25-11, 25-16, 25-11 in its final regular-season match. Ashley Strecker had 15 assists and three kills, Sara Mosiman had five kills and six aces, Alex Keeney had five kills and two blocks and Carissa Clark had four kills and three aces for King’s (11-1 league, 11-4 overall). Tacoma Baptist finished its season 0-12, 0-15.

La Conner 3, Archbishop Murphy 0: At La Conner, La Conner (9-0 league, 11-1 overall) swept through the Northwest A match, 25-18, 25-21, 25-12. Ashley Werner had nine assists and seven digs to lead Archbishop Murphy (3-5, 6-8).

Darrington 3, Shoreline Christian 1: At Shoreline, the Darrington Loggers defeated Shoreline Christian (7-3 in league, 11-3 overall) 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 25-12 to claim the Northwest B championship. Amy Jones had 12 kills and Lindsey Bryson recorded 31 assists and had seven service aces for Darrington 8-0, 11-1.
