EVERETT — The Everett Seagulls made a surprise run on the opening day of the Class 3A sub-regional meet — posting 120.5 points, good for second-place behind 3A powerhouse Sedro Woolley’s 137.5.
The Seagulls were led by Anthony Lucero (119-pounds), Cary Irwin (152) and Alec Bird (171), who all pulled off upsets of top seeds. Lucero defeated Ferndale’s Jack Johnson (No. 4 seed), Irwin defeated Arlington’s Jessey Bosley (No. 1) and Bird’s win came against Sedro Woolley’s Nick Frazier (No. 2).
The tournament finishes today at Everett High School.
