Everything works for Mariner vs. Terrace

EVERETT – The Mariner boys basketball team hopes to have more nights like Tuesday.

The Marauders took a double-digit lead into the intermission en route to a 62-47 victory over Mountlake Terrace in a Wesco South game at Mariner High School.

“Everything seemed to be working,” Marauders assistant coach Rick Wike said.

The Marauders (4-3 in division, 5-5 overall) led by 12 points at the half and started the third period with a 10-2 run.

Joey Dillon scored a team-high 17 points for Mariner and he recorded four of the Marauders’ 14 steals. Jerrel Grant added 11 points.

The Hawks (2-4, 3-7) changed their defensive scheme late in the first half but were unable to find an answer for Mariner’s offense. The Marauders finished 17-for-36 from the field and 5-for-12 on 3-point shots.

“(Mountlake Terrace) started in zone (defense) and we made some shots,” Wike said. “They went to man … and we were able to get the ball inside more.”

Mariner’s Damascus Purnell had 14 points – all scored in the second half – and grabbed eight rebounds.

John Allen led Mountlake Terrace with 21 points.
