EWU vs. UW game thread

Huskies win 83-50

A pretty easy win for the Huskies tonight. Jon Brockman had a big second half to finish with a team-high 17 points despite sitting out the last 8:46 of the game. He was held to a season-low five rebounds, however.

Isaiah Thomas, who had 12 points in the first half, finished with 13, and Justin Denmon also had 13.

A crazy stat from this game, the Huskies attempted 35 free throws, while Easter shot just six.

Huskies still rolling

The lead is 21 now after a Brockman layup. Brockman struggled early, which is not all that unexpected given that he didn’t do much the last two weeks with the ankle injury, but has had a nice second half with seven early points, and he now has 12.

Benny Valentine, Eastern’s best player, didn’t play in the first half, apparently for discipline reasons, but is in in the second half.

Washington leads 42-22 at half

An already tiny crowd looks to have gotten a bit smaller, as a lot of people left at halftime. Can’t say I blame them, as this is turning into a blowout and snow keeps piling up.

Santa Clause made a halftime appearance to throw some candy into the crowd, and that was the only halftime entertainment, as there is no band and no cheerleaders for this game.

And speaking of the game, Isaiah Thomas is currently the Huskies leading scorer with 12 points, while Justin Dentmon has nine. One odd stat, the Huskies are getting out-rebounded 17 to 15, and Brockman has just one board. Washington has been one of the top rebounding teams in the country this season.

Huskies up 14

After a slow start, the Huskies are pulling away from Eastern. The game was tied at 15 midway through the half, but Washington has outscored the Eagles 17-3 since then. Isaiah Thomas lead the Huskies with 10 points… wait, make that 12 as he hits two free throws to make it 34-18.

I’m beginning to think this new goatee look may not last for Brockman, as he is just one of six from the field so far sporting his new facial hair.

A close game early

After a slow start, the Huskies are getting some offense from Isaiah Thomas and Matthew Bryan-Amaning. Thomas hit a three for Washington’s first field goal of the game three and a half minutes into the game. He hit another three on the Huskies’ next possession, and was fouled to set up a four-point play.

Bryan-Amaning, who has had career highs in scoring in back to back games, came off the bench tonight as has scored six quick points to give the Huskies a 14-13 lead.

Jon Brockman did start as expected, and is sporting a new goatee.
