Gina Carbonatto, a 2003 graduate of Lake Stevens High School, has been hired as an assistant coach by the University of Washington softball team, head coach Heather Tarr announced Monday.
Carbonatto, who spent last season as a volunteer assistant with the Huskies, will work primarily with outfielders and will also help hitters with slap-bunting.
“I think Gina is one of the best young coaches out there,” Tarr said. “She knows our system and has proven in her year as a volunteer that she’s an effective coach. She has a magnetic personality and that, combined with her playing experience at the highest levels, enables her to communicate her knowledge of the game very well.”
Carbonatto was a three-time All-American at the University of the Pacific, and was The Herald’s 2006 Woman of the Year in Sports. A career .401 hitting centerfielder for the Tigers, She spent the past two summers playing for the New England Riptide of the National Pro Fastpitch League.
