NEW YORK — Freddy Garcia has been released by the New York Mets following two bad starts for Triple-A Buffalo.
Garcia, a former Seattle Mariner, went 0-2 with an 8.18 earned-run average, and allowed seven earned runs and seven hits in five innings against Syracuse on Monday night.
He had surgery on his right shoulder in August 2007 and made only 14 starts the previous two seasons with Philadelphia and Detroit, going 2-6 with a 5.55 ERA. The 33-year-old right-hander would have gotten a $1.5 million, one-year deal if added to the Mets’ 40-man roster.
