SEATTLE — Former Mariners catcher Bill Haselman has been named as a volunteer assistant coach for the Washington baseball team, completing the staff of new coach Lindsay Meggs.
The school announced Wednesday that Haselman, who spent 13 years in the major leagues, will mentor the Huskies’ catchers and coach first base during games.
The 43-year-old Haselman played for the Mariners from 1992-94. He was on the staff of Boston manager Terry Francona in 2004 when the Red Sox won the World Series.
He says he is looking forward to getting back into coaching and that working with Meggs was the attraction.
He joins assistants Dave Nakama and Greg Moore on Washington’s staff.
Meggs and Haselman both graduated from Saratoga High School in California and played at UCLA, though they were never teammates.
