NEW YORK — The New York Liberty re-signed veteran Swin Cash 10 days after cutting her for salary-cap reasons.
The forward was released before the season started to save salary-cap space, and the team waited the minimum time required by league rules before signing her on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old Cash started 28 games for New York last season, averaging 17 minutes and 4.5 points and 2.4 rebounds. She provided veteran leadership for the Liberty, who had the best record in the WNBA last year.
New York waived second-round pick Ameryst Alston on May 16 to make space for Cash.
Cash took in the home opener against Dallas on May 15 sitting in the stands at Madison Square Garden. She received a warm ovation from the fans when she appeared on the video board.
“It makes me really happy to have the crowd react the way it did, it was heartfelt,” she said.
A three-time WNBA champion, Cash has won titles with Detroit (2003, 2006) and Seattle (2010). She hopes to earn one in New York.
“We definitely are a championship-caliber team, and I know we have a chance to get one here,” Cash said.
