ROME — Ferrari has found a new sponsor in Indian automaker Tata Motors, which is best known for producing the world’s cheapest car.
“For the first time an Indian brand will appear on a Ferrari,” Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo said Tuesday. “It’s a historic event.”
Ferrari said the partnership will launch next year.
Tata, India’s largest automaker, is known for its high-profile “people’s car,” the Nano — which at 100,000 rupees ($2,028) is billed as the world’s cheapest car.
Formula One has embarked on a massive cost-cutting operation to cope with the economic downturn that prompted Honda to pull out of the sport last week.
WOKING, England — McLaren has agreed to a sponsorship deal with computer firm Lenovo for 2009.
McLaren said on Wednesday that Lenovo would provide the British Formula One team with notebook and desktop PCs at the racetrack and team headquarters, with the Chinese firm’s technology being integrated into McLaren’s engineering operations.
The deal comes amid troubled times for F1. Earlier this month, Honda announced it was pulling out of the sport because of the economic crisis.
Governing body FIA and the F1 teams have already agreed to sweeping changes for next year in a bid to curb costs.
