I had wanted to get this post up earlier, but I was stuck in line at the local WaMu trying to get a peek at my life savings.
A lot of folks told me journalism doesn’t pay, but you really don’t understand that until times like these.
Doesn’t pay? That’s like saying the ocean has some water in it.
But seriously folks, I’ll be here all weekend, with a matinee on Sunday. Try the chicken.
Enough with the lame opening …
This is it for the local racing season. (Ed: Yes, I know the Fall Classic is coming up in Yakima, but I can’t even get the paper to pay me to go to Skagit Speedway, much less Yakima.)
Saturday is the Dino Rossi for Governor Big and Small Track Championship Night at Evergreen Speedway. Track champions will be crowned in five divisions after races on the five-eighths, three-eighths and figure-eight tracks.
It is also Fan Appreciation Night, with plenty of deals to help racing fans enjoy a fun night without breaking the bank more than the Feds already have.
I will not attempt another live blog, but will post to this, my regular blog, several times with the results of heat and feature races, and the champions.
I have already been asked by three racers who I think will win in their divisions … and I hate to disappoint them, and you, but I’m not going to pick the local races this weekend.
Oh, I have my ideas of who’s going to win those races, and the titles. I’m just not going public with them (Ed: And no, I won’t claim on Monday that I was right).
I’m not superstitious, but at the same time some of my picks have not worked out for the drivers I’ve chosen, so I’m just going to stay mum for now.
Hey, with cars sponsored by both candidates for governor racing in the Super Stock division, I just felt the need to keep waffling.
Mill Creek, Wash., resident Tayler Malsam will once again race in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this weekend.
Malsam will take part in the Loud Energy Drink 150 on Sunday on the road course at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, N.J.
For the observant types out there, that’s the same track where Mukilteo, Wash., racer Carl Skerlong won his first Atlantic Championship Series race at a couple weeks ago.
Here’s hoping Washington state goes 2-for-2 in beautiful New Jersey.
There’s no place like Kansas, there’s no place like Kansas.
Vancouver, Wash., native Greg Biffle is smoking hot right now, and is the first Chaser ever to win the first two races in NASCAR’s playoff.
But I’m still thinking about his teammate, Carl Edwards. “Concrete Carl” disappointed after taking two instead of four tires in his final pit stop last weekend at Dover. He holds a slim (10 points) lead in the Chase and is hungry to get back to Victory Lane.
One final thought on the Cup race: If Kyle Busch doesn’t rebound to finish in the top-five, I don’t think all the pep talks and confidence-building in the world will help him the rest of the way.
For the Nationwide race, I’m going to pick a Cupster moonlighting in the junior circuit. Kevin Harvick has been steadily coming on in the Cup races, but he’ll get his win on Saturday, not Sunday.
The first Singapore Grand Prix is also F1’s first night race. Lewis Hamilton said qualifying well will be the key to the race, to which I can only say: Duh.
Mr. Hamilton, qualifying well is the key to every Formula One race.
So for my pick, I say the polesitter will win the Singapore GP.
How’s that for waffling?
