Deming Speedway, by Kaleb Hart, 8/21/09

DEMING, Wash. — Aaron Fell and Kyle Johnson returned to their winning ways on Miller Lite night at Deming Speedway.

The former Clay Cup champions each picked up main event wins by leading all 25 laps of their feature. In the Advanced Sprint Car &Toys for Trucks 1200s, Fell was his typical self, rim riding all the way around the 1/6 mile clay oval en route to victory lane. Derek Holmwood was second in his return to the track after being out on the World of Outlaw trail as a crew member. Brent Holloway was third. Brock Lemley set quick time. Clennon Holloway and Eric Drake won the heats.

Kyle Johnson took to the high groove early in the Speedmart PMP 600 main event, leading the first 14 laps comfortably. Following a race stoppage, Phil Schemenauer gave Johnson a run on the inside groove which Johnson thwarted, then moved his car to the bottom of the track for the remainder of the feature en route to another victory. Schemenauer hung on for second with Jake Benson racing his way to third. JR Thomas was quick time. Heat race wins went to Brandon Benson, Mike Severson, Jake Benson and Rece Goetz. Trey Starks won the B main. John Grinder won the C.

Jake Benson continued his perfect streak in the 250 division, as he’s now won every 250 main he’s competed in this year. Benson made it a clean sweep on the night as he set quick time, won his heat, and took the lead from Leslie Davies on lap two of the 20 lap feature to bring home the victory. Davies finished a career best second, with Austin Smith taking third. Jake Little won the other heat race.

Rece Goetz has a habit of making things look easy in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted class, and his habit was evident again on Friday night as he went wire to wire in the 25 lap feature for the victory. Dougie James ran second with Tyler Anderson taking the third place honors. Anderson was also quick time. Goetz and Nate Vaughn won the heats.

Ashleigh Johnson led all 15 laps of the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint feature for her first career triumph. The daughter of two Skagit Speedway veterans, Johnson maintained a comfortable advantage all race long, without challenge or incident. Robie Price took second, Spencer Constance third. Constance was quick time. Heat wins went to Rece Wickard and Price.

Next Friday night is Les Schwab night at Deming Speedway with all 5 classes once again in action. Racing starts at 7pm. For ticket information log on to www.demingspeedway.com .
