Last Sunday, I cruised by Pass Lake, which is open all year, and saw that the parking lot was jammed.
Lots of people on the lake; few were catching any fish.
My luck at Pass has always been inconsistent. Some days, it’s great for me.
Some days, like last Sunday, it’s difficult. But I’ve heard that it has had some great days this spring for other people, especially during warmer weather when more bugs are hatching.
Again, I’d try chironomids and bloodworms near the bottom until the lake warms up a little more and other bugs start to hatch. Also be ready for the “flying ant hatch” on Pass.
Usually there are some days early in the year (it should be too long from now) when the weather is sunny and warm and the carpenter ants pour out of nests to follow the queen to a new location.
They can be blown onto the lake by the hundreds, creating some wonderful dry fly fishing if you’ve got the right flies. You want something in all black, size 12.
