The football game I covered last week (Meadowdale 34, Glacier Peak 28 in OT) was the best one I’ve seen this year. But the second-best clash I’ve seen this season was Jackson’s 41-21 Wesco South victory over Kamiak on Friday at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Kamiak (3-1 South division, 3-3 overall) got off to a great start and made some huge plays in the first half, but Jackson’s offense starting rolling after halftime and the Timberwolves (3-0, 6-0) seemed to wear down the Knights.
Along the way, Jackson generated some of the most incredible plays I’ve witnessed in awhile. You can watch all of them in Jackson student videographer Matthew Robertson’s highlight compilation.
Watch these must-see moments:
*0:15 Jackson QB Andy Gay drops back, looks to pass but sees an opening and zooms in for a 47-yard TD run.
*0:56 After halftime, Jackson (led by standout lineman Jake White) returns to the field and rips through a giant banner held by the T-Wolves’ cheer squad. No, it’s not actually part of the game. But it’s definitely looks cool.
*1:03 QB Gay throws left to Marshall Massengale, who immediately secures the ball and shows great speed while springing to a 73-yard score. It was the turning point of the game, coming on Jackson’s first snap of the third quarter.
*1:46 PLAY OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE: Gay turns a near-sack into a short pass play that RB Riley Carr (with help from several blockers, including #2 Kyle Olson) turns into an epic 79-yard TD reception. Ridiculous. Carr breaks FOUR tackles during his wild romp.
*2:18 Carr strikes again, taking a direct snap and slicing through the defense en route to a 67-yard score.
*2:38 White, the lineman, blocks a punt late in the game AND recovers it in the end zone for a TD.
Football video highlights: Jackson vs. Kamiak
As always, thanks to Matthew Robertson for the video highlights. And remember, I’d love to post video from any of our local teams, and not just from football games. So if you have something, send it to mcane@heraldnet.com.
