SPOKANE — Jakobe Ford, a former track standout at Everett Community College, was killed in a shooting in Spokane this past Saturday night, according to The Spokesman-Review newspaper.
A 25-year-old man was detained as a suspect in the shooting, which took place in the 400 block of West Sprague Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Police on Sunday confirmed the man was the suspect in the shooting. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Ford, 22, was a Shadle Park High School graduate and was recently named to the Northwest Athletic Conferences All-Decade teams for 2010-19. He was named to the first team as a triple jumper and to the second team in the long jump.
In 2018, Ford broke Everett Community College’s all-time high jump record as a freshman. In May that year he set an NWAC Championship meet record in the triple jump at 50-11 1/4, becoming the first to win all three jumping events at that meet.
